Remote control application for handhelds with an interface builder on the PC. The application needs to be able to "sync" configurations with the handheld device. The interface builder should come supplied with a pre-configured set of IR codes for the common models of devices but should also have the ability to learn new codes. This project is needs to be split into two sections: 1) The interface build application for the desktop pc. This application should allow for the creation of the actual remote control that will be "synced" to the handheld device whether it be a pocket pc based device or Palm. 2) The actual application that runs on the handheld and actually issues the IR commands. The desktop application (Remote Builder) should have a pre-defined set of commands built in which the ability to download/upload (share) new codes. Obviously to allow this the application should be able to learn new IR codes through the infrared port on the PC. Ideally the screen would be split in two; the left half being the screen showing the specific buttons for the chosen remote and the right showing the actual screen you will see on the handheld. For example you would chose the controller as a Sony TV. This would list all buttons associated with the Sony TV. From there I could chose to drag and drop the on/off button, the numerical numbers. I then chose the DVD player that I have and drag the pause, play, stop, on/off buttons across. Perhaps I have an amp for the volume in which case I select the + - buttons for volume and drag them across to the handheld screen. Now on the handheld screen I have everything necessary to control TV, volume and control the dvd all on one screen. With the handheld device the user should be able to choose between profiles - maybe through a drop down box. For example if I wanted to control the dvd player I could select the dvd profile that would just show the relevant buttons that I have dragged. If I needed just the tv I could select that profile which would just have the necessary buttons to control the tv. Key Aspects: 1. Overall simplicity is the key. 2. A drag and drop design environment is required. 3. Updating of infrared codes both from us and the end user. 4. Should allow for training of new infrared codes. 5. The desktop application should also be able to run the pocket pc application so that users could control devices with their laptop.
