recording sound from mic

I need a C++ code, compilable in Visual Studio 2005, that grabs the sound from the default recording device and stores the last 10-15 seconds in a buffer in a convenient format, from which it's easy to extract information about the sound such as overall intensity and information about frequencies within the sound.

I need a C++ code, compilable in Visual Studio 2005, that grabs the sound from the default recording device and stores the last 10-15 seconds in a buffer in a convenient format, from which it's easy to extract information about the sound such as overall intensity and information about frequencies within the sound.

You are free to choose the exact format, but of course you must discuss it with me first.

As a proof that the required information is indeed extractable from the data, the program must include two text fields:

Text field 1 should display a number that indicates the current overall intensity (volume) of the sound.

Text field 2 can be anything of your choosing that proves to me that some information about frequencies can be extracted. As a suggestion, you can for example display the dominant frequency of the sound (in Hertz).

No other menus or buttons are required. This should be a very simple project for those who have done some sound analysis work before. Therefore I expect a deadline of just a few days.
