Reverse Engineer Binary CAD Data Files

Grand Scope: This is a multi-stage project, involving the external manipulation of entities composing CAD job files that are generated in a normal course of designing a schematic diagrams. Background: Job files produced by the CAD application are presented in a graphical form for the CAD designer to manipulate, and can be saved in a binary form to a job file. The saved job file is only available in a binary form, with unknown structure or format. No public documentation about the format is available. Project: In a nutshell, the first stage of the project is to be able to modify the binary CAD file via an external program: Instead of the CAD user doing the entities manipulation in the GUI within the CAD application framework, the overall intention of this bid request is to build a VB program that will read in a binary job file, extract requested attributes/data related to the entities, manipulate/change them, write them back into the CAD binary file, and save the modified binary file. The CAD application should be able to open the modified binary file without any errors and present the modified entities to the user - just as he would have done it thru the CAD app GUI. Specifics: This specific bid request is to identify a possible coder who can do the various stages of the job. The successful bidder will show his competency by doing a preliminary phase of reverse-engineering the structure/format of the attached binary file. The selected coder will gain the bid amount upon providing the deliverables. To get a feel for the project, the attached file shows: 1. The graphical representation of a CAD file (PDF format) 2. The binary file generated from (1) ******************************************* The application that generates the job files can be made available in a demo mode,at my discretion, to any bidder. ******************************************* I can explain the meaning of each and every entity in the graphics. Note: (1) is a simple example. More complex scenarios should be analyzed at a later stage (e.g. multi page praphics, hierarchical structure etc.). I expect the coder to be able, upon completing this bid request, to continue and bid on the more complex scenarios. Feel free to ask questions. This project can be very rewarding and interesting.

## Deliverables

1) A CAD file parser DLL/OCX (preferably written in VC++) and A sample VB program that will allow me to: a. Change any reference designator (R1, R2, U1, U2 etc) that appears in the attached binary data file to a different string. b. List all the pins that are attached to any connection (note: although the pin numbers are not visible in the attached PDF, they are in the database and can be queried in the GUI) c. List the attributes assigned to any component or connection (again, not shown in the PDF but are in the database and can be queried in the GUI) and allow the change of any selected attribute name or value. d. Dump all existing entities and their values in a tabular form. Note: after modification of (a) and (b) above, to be able to see the changes in the CAD gui after opening the modified file. 2) all executibles, DLL/OCX andsource code of the programs developed. Zipped project directory of any VC++ program developed. 3) Exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site).
