Need macro written for Excel 2003 that will convert x-y plotted data into words that describe fields on diagram. I am a geologist who works for the US Geological Survey. We use x-y scatter plots (derived from numeric x-y data pairs) to classify data into fields on the x-y plots. Physical plotting and inspection of the plots is then necessary to transfer the names of the fields on the x-y diagrams into Excel spreadsheets or databases. I need an Excel macro written that will take the raw x-y input data and calculate the names of the fields on the x-y plots; the macro will automatically transfer the names of the fields in which the x-y data fall into a new Excel spreadsheet, thereby eliminating the need to do the physical plotting and inspection of the x-y plots.
This macro will need to take input data from an Excel worksheet, calculate the names of the fields on various x-y plots (10 minimum; possibly as many as 25), and enter those names in a new Excel worksheet or in the original data worksheet. The x-y plots vary from simple diagrams with few fields (5 or fewer) defined by straight lines to complex diagrams with many fields (30 maximum) defined by curves and straight lines). Field names consist of standard english terms in the geological sciences. X-Y input parameters are always numeric entries. X and Y axes are either arithmetric or logarithmic.
The deadline for funding (payment) of this project is the second week of July, 2007. Funding is through the US Government, either by appointment or sealed bid.
Please e-mail me with questions. I will furnish examples of the simple and complex x-y plots and field names
