We are using an open-source piece of software called Open-Dent ([url removed, login to view]). They currently support most of the 837 claim file spec as a sub-set of the ANSI X12 spec. This works fine for billing dental codes/procedures, but we bill medical as well. We would like to 'complete' the support for the 837 format. The leader of this open-source project is really easy to work with. If you have experience with electronic medical billing specs than this should be fairly easy. However even if you don't the file specs are well documented and I can fill in the missing pieces. Oh, the software is written in C#. Edit: I have attached a compressed ZIP of the file specs that are needed. Most of these specs are already in place. There are only a few segments in the 2400 loop that aren't implemented. When a claim file (837) is generated it pulls these "segments" from a mysql db to create the file. If you look on page 102 in the file named "[url removed, login to view]" you will see the specs for the detail segment called SV2. You will see when you look at the code that this segment is not currently supported. We need something like an if-then to check the type of claim then generate the appropriate SV segment. It is simpler than it sounds.
