The short story. Our company manufactures and sells wholesale womens clothing. When our new catalog comes out I'm putting up a new website. I want to make a MySQL database of all our items and have a PHP page where users can search the database and pull up pictures of the items.
The long story. 1 - We will sign up for a free database somewhere on the net like [url removed, login to view] or whatever that website is. We will do our work there and then I will migrate things to our website. The reason I can't do it now is because we have to enable our MySQL on Yahoo! Small Business where we host our website. The only person who has the password is our network consultant and we have to pay him to login and enable the MySQL database. Once I show my Operations Manager a working demo of the database I'm sure she'll get off her butt and have our database enabled, but for now we do our work on a free database. 2 - I will provide 10-30 items to enter in the database and then show me how to add additional items. I have over 430+ items in our current catalog and I'm sure the new catalog will be even bigger. I can't afford to pay someone to do all that work. 3 - Fields in the database will be Item Number, Colors, Description, Page. These will be the fields people will be able to search by. Someone clicks a link on my website which opens the PHP page and the search options come up. For example people can search by item number if they know it.. for example 1120G-6153 would be an item number or 9601-2000 would be another item number. Hit search and it'll pull up a picture of that item. If people only know part of the item number they could enter just 9601 for example and it would pull up every 9601-XXXX item we sell in every color. There will be a lot of those, so they would get divided up into multiple pages because you can't just show 50 or 100 images on one page.. it would take too long to load. If people want to search by color they can enter say brown and hit search and everything we sell in brown will show up pictures. If people want to search by description they can enter skirt for example and all the skirts will pop up. If people want to see everything on page 24 of our catalog, they can enter that and it'll pop up pictures for that. I just want someone to start me off. Like I said I'll supply maybe 10 or 30 items with all the information including pictures for the database. I'll sign us up for a free database. Yahoo! Small Business has MySQL and PHP Nuke if you need. Not sure what else you need. I just need to get them enabled. So, for now I'll have a free database to test everything out with and hopefully you have some web space I can see a working demo. Like I said I can't pay someone to do 430+ items in the database for me, so I'd like to be shown how to add items myself and what to do when I move it over to my Yahoo! Small Business website.
