This is a Pocket PC Smart Client application for use by service engineers servicing / repairing equipment on remote customer sites.
The PDA will communicate using a normal SOAP web service client, via GPRS mobile phone network, with a SOAP web service (which is being written by us). Behind the web service is our main application which amongst other things runs a diary/scheduling function for controlling the work being done by engineers.
Messages sent to the PDA will mainly be details of jobs to be done, but will also include other packages such as ‘alert’ messages and lookup table updates.
Messages sent from the PDA will include details of jobs completed, requests for further work, status information; ‘on the way to the job’, ‘arrived at the job’ and so on.
The application will need to handle ‘occasionally connected’ scenarios, that is, having the ability to continue operating using locally held data when no network connection is available, and seamlessly reconnect and catch up when the connection is again available.
This is intended to be phase 1 of a multi-phase project.
Before commencing work on the project the coder will be required to complete a simple Non-disclosure / non-compete agreement.
Further information is in the accompanying Word document.
