At present I have a varchar(7) column which needs to support extremely quick substring searches. The table in question will contain approx max 30 million rows. Each string will range from as little as 4 characters to a maximum of 7 but substring searches anywhere within the string of length 2 or greater needs to be supported. As such I'm proposing to create a GIN index on the varchar(7) column where the opclass will generate all substrings of length 2 or greater and index these. ---- In response to questions, the alphabet is A-Z (uppercase only) and 0-9. Assume ASCII encoding.
