We need a "live chat" facility on a website, something like [url removed, login to view] has for its streams. It should be written in PHP5 and use AJAX for communication with the web server. It should have the following functionality: Scrollable text window that automatically scrolls to the bottom when a new message arrives. Checkbox to turn off incomming messages. Seperate window showing current users - users names are clickable and link to a bio page, ideally link data comes from MySQL database, but a text file on the server would also work. Buttons to change the text before it is sent (bold, italic, underline & colour). As many seperate "rooms" as we like. Each message should be time stamped and display username as it arrives, followed by the message. Message limited to 256 chars excluding timestamp and name. History of conversations ideally stored in MySQL database, but text file on server would suffice. There should also be tables in the database to enter IP addresses that are banned, a list of words that are replaced with asterisks (eg swear words). Anyone can use the facility and a random username is chosen, user can change the name, unless user has already logged into the website and a session variable then passes their username to the application. If user changes name, lookup in db to ensure not already used. Questions?
