We are looking to build a social action website for an upcoming documentary about water rights, cost, and contamination. The website needs to enable people to easily upload videos to youtube/vimeo and have them appear on a map. Visitors will then be able to select an image on the map to view a video that has been submitted. After watching, a visitor can upvote the video with a visible ranking system.
Additionally, the website will need to pull data from a variety of sources. We're looking to be a one-stop shop for finding contaminant threats within your municipal water system. The EPA has published a list of many of the facilities, that list has been processed on a map that can be accessed at [url removed, login to view] We're looking to do a more advanced version of this that outlines exactly how many threats exist surrounding one's community.
Please let us know if you will be able to research data provided by the EPA (like chemicals contained by various facilities), and what data can be automated for its location on a map. People need to automatically be able to file Freedom of Information Act requests based on the resulting data, so they can find out what is upstream of their respective community.
The website will also serve as a funding platform for the film.
I am attaching a couple of extremely rough mockups for the design, with the simple aim of giving you a sense of what I'm describing.
