An e-commerce application that is more than just a web-site. the application will provide a dynamic list of the items which are available in stock, allow the customer to select items in a `virtual shopping basket', calculate the cost, allow the customer place their order and pay for it on-line by giving their credit card number or add to their accounts if applicable(so should be able to open/varify accnt holders). The site may allow customers to follow the progress of their order so that they know when the goods have been dispatched.
system needs to have client side and server side. ie website and database so organisation can see all details and orders are automatically brought to the attention of staff
XML (*eXtensible Markup Language*) is seen by many as a natural successor to HTML for writing documents for the Web. Whereas the tags in HTML are fixed, XML allows one to introduce new tags, specific to the application at hand. A document written with these tags can then be displayed in different formats, processed in different ways, by using *stylesheets*. The aim of this project is to develop a generic e-commerce package based on XML and Java. XML will be used to generate the web-pages and this will allow the package to be readily customized. Java will be used to do the processing both on the client-side and on the server. The package will be demonstrated by producing a simple e-commerce web-site.
as litlle knowledge of xml and java, project should be done in an easy to understand format and user guide should be available and system should be easy to maintain and update. code explanation should be available also.
