Bitv web site refresh in Flash

# Progressive-download video site refresh, using Flash and CSS for BITV

I created a web site for my client, BITV using the Flash 8 demo, and a combination of simple CSS and HTML. It requires completion. The site is fairly simple at present, it's effectively a prototype and has very simple navigation, a single-level menu. Videos compressed using Flash Video 8 Importer and Sorenson Squeeze are played back using the Flash player in progressive download mode. Videos begin streaming almost instantly. We need to have this site updated so that it is utterly slick and professional. It should be possible to "skin" this web site very easily, so that we can spin off sites for clients

*of* BITV too. The site also needs to be standards compliant and viewable across the widest range of machines. Although the demo I've done currently runs on Flash 8, this is primarily because of the high quality possible with the latest Flash Video Codec. If it's possible to do this on Flash 7 and get a really slick and beautiful effect, in order to reach the widest possible range of people, that would be a very big plus. The menu system for selecting videos is too simple and needs to be a lot more "flash" and beautiful. It's of great importance to have a really nice menu system that looks breathtaking, whilst conforming to sensible user interface standards. It should be easy to use, and yet allow you to select from a multitude of well organised video clips. Our existing site is at: [url removed, login to view] - we produce all the films in-house, but would appreciate advice on how best to compress them. Skills most likely required in descending priority: HTML, Flash, JavaScript, PHP, Photoshop

## Deliverables

1) Complete and fully-functional working web site as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).

3) Robust and clean Flash version detection 4) Streaming of Flash Video with no discernible delay from a non-streaming server with progressive download. 5) Slick and stylish presentation. Using the site should be a joy for the user, but the interface shouldn't get in the way. The interface should be clean, elegant and beautiful without being toyish. 6) Optimised for broadband - 512kbps and higher 7) Menu system for selecting films: a) Organised by client b) Variable number of clips per client c) Unique and beautiful interface for selection. 8) Ability to send email to the site through a form 9) Minimum number of pages/tabs using a TV metaphor include: a) Home page showing introduction film b) Films page with menu system as discussed above c) Contact page with form based contact method d) Team page with video profile of each team member, easy to expand e) Services page that shows a film on how our services work. This could well be integrated into the Films page, as it is in effect, a channel. Perhaps the Team page can be integrated in the same way. 10) A beautiful TV metaphor with stylish remote control for displaying the films. This should look modern, functional and very hard to copy without looking like a rip-off! 11) If possible, the ability to password protect “channels?? which are the topmost organisational level of our films. The emphasis on the site is stylishness, slickness, seriousness all in one seamless package. It's not complicated, but it's important to get the look right. 12) Currently, our films are 320x240 resolution FLVs playing at 25fps, compressed with either Sorenson Squeeze or the Flash 8 importer using their new codec, at a max data rate of around 400kbps. Ideally, we’d like to play films back at higher res, say 480x30, but would need your feedback on how we can make this happen. This is obviously a very important design consideration from the outset. 13) The ability to view our site without needing to scroll on a screen of 1024x768 We have a logo and we use Futura condensed fonts, but we will require additional graphics to make the site look beautiful.
