I have revised this project. Rather than a laptop-based system, it should be a Web-based system, using MySQL or other backend database support. It is intended to allow conference attendees to be matched with exhibitors displaying items the attendee is interested in, and that will allow attendees to be matched with seminar sessions they are interested in.
To see a mockup of the desired application, go to www.NatpeNavigator.com.
Time is of the essence. I would like the app ready to use by Dec. 12.
This should be a screen-driven and menu-driven app, designed for easy and intuitive use by a non-professional -- someone staffing a check-in desk at a conference, rather than a computer operator.
In advance of the conference, we will enter information on about 100 companies who will be exhibiting their wares at the conference. We will want to capture their full contact information -- company name, address(es), phone, fax, e-mail, contact person(s), their titles, etc., along with their booth number at the show. In addition, we want to indicate which products they offer, from a list of perhaps 60 to 100. This can be by check box, etc., but we need the ability to enter and modify product names, add more if needed, etc.
We will capture similar information about the attendees who are not exhibitors. Instead of asking what they produce, we will ask what products they buy -- from the same list.
We also will need to enter information about the lectures and other sessions at the conference -- time, date, location, speaker(s), etc.
In advance of the conference, and "live" at the conference, we want the ability to do the following:
-- Allow an attendee to specify which of the product categories they are interested in buying or seeing, and then generate a printout that tells that attendee which exhibitor(s) provide those products, with their booth number.
-- Allow attendees to indicate their interest in the seminars, and generate two lists: a list of seminars, with times and locations; and for each seminar, a list of all attendees who plan to be present.
The information can be stored in separate databases -- exhibitors, non-exhibiting attendees, seminar attendees, etc. -- or in one file with tables and links.
We need this done quickly, in 1 to 2 weeks, and with certainty that it will perform as intended. So we will need to see a track record of successful development of similar database-driven desktop apps.

If it will make this project faster or easier to do, using ASP.net (rather than MySQL and PHH) is an acceptable option.
