This is a socket server for Flash MX written in perl for use on Redhat Linux 9. It requires a flash interface for accepting a username password and a checkbox for anonymous. This username and password will be sent to a perl script that uses DBD DBI to talk to a mysql server and connects to a DB called mydb and selects from a table called users that has two fields username and password both are varchar(255). If the username and password verify then the flash interface displays a scrolling text box and waits for the server to send messages to it. It will also provide a text box that allows a user to send text back to the perl socket server. The perl script will perform selects on a table called messages in the DB mydb where the fields it needs to return are username and message both are varchar(255). It will remember the value of the highest id (int auto incrementing) and only send messages to the clients that have not been viewed by them. it will continue to search for new records in messages until the socket connection is closed.
