Hello from Zero Gravity Design in Cape Town, South Africa. One of our clients runs a Touring company and has requested an online tour tracking system. Their website is at [url removed, login to view] Our regular programmer is overbooked so I am trying out RentaCoder. The client's basic request is as follows:
"We use a simple diary system to keep control of all our tours and transfers ??" once a booking is confirmed we write it up in pencil in a pre-printed diary (see attached).
I would love to get this off paper into an electronic format. I looked at using Excel but not great when there are multiple users. Ideally a simple web-based app (with some backend functionality) would be the solution (staff could view the diary after hours from home if necessary)."
The Diary they showed us is a page-a-day sheet with the following fields:
TRANSFER SCHEDULE Day Date
Car Guide Ok Time Guests Service From To Flight To / From Etd Consultant Agent
Please note I was unable to complete the auto interview as I could not put a cursor in the text box.
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will "install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
>>>>> Please NOTE: We asked for, and were given additional client brief (first box was too small to include this): "We did a whole investigation with workflows etc with a software dev co last year but all got too big and expensive. I really felt that this should be a “simple?? (I know it never is!!!) web-based app. We use Quickbooks for financials and Excel and Word for the rest ??" which is fine. The diary however is a big concern ??" it is literally a pre-printed book that lives on a desk in the office and is our whole life!!! Fine if only doing a few tours every day but becomes a nightmare when we are busy. Key points are : 1. As you say - safety of storage. 2. Controlled access by different users ??" some with edit rights and others with view only. Would be about 8 users with edit rights and 4 with view only. 3. View on-line ??" from home after hours etc 4. Don’t need to build in too much functionality initially ie. system would pick up if you tried to book same vehicle for two different tours (can add this in later once system is up and running and we can fully define rules to apply) - but would need an audit trail of all changes done to data. 5. Would also need a notes page for each day ??" free text area for additional info required for those tours and transfers. 6. Sort option - by the various columns." ----------------- That's it! I look forward to hearing from you.
The Diary program described above needs to be a 'back' section of the client's website, accessible via login through any normal browser. Their hosting includes a cpanel with MySQL databases. Client uses pcs with wintel platform, but that should not be an issue.
