As of now, I manually get these files, and separate the data into the palmar-april-break.xls. This is a manual manipulation of the data. The [url removed, login to view] is a statistics file, that we’d like to have be reported into a database/table on a daily basis.
More than likely we’ll have databases that will be called hotelname. Then different tables which can be created to manage the different reports that are put up on the Hotel’s servers. I would rather have the information be automatically put into the database through some type of FTP script, than to have me manually import the data each morning.
The most important file is the [url removed, login to view] file (which is exactly how the file comes out of the server), and the [url removed, login to view] (which can be opened in excel), and then the out put of the data on some of the revenue splits I am interested in getting.
Our server is on a UNIX based webserver, and we can easily create MySQL 100MB database there no problem, which has phpmsqladmin all installed ready to be used. I use Crystal Reports (or I am learning CR), so I’d prefer to use a db that can be reported on using that software.
I anticipate this being a pretty straight forward creation of an FTP script which logs on to server, navigates to directory, grabs log files, parses into readable format (these files are all tab separated, or comma separated), uses a native mysql ms sql, or php import funtion into the database on a daily basis. If the programmer is an expert SQL programmer, perhaps they could create some views, or fucntions which we could use to report on, other wise, I can run my own reports in Crystal Reports on the database itself.
