TELIT GM862-GPS is a GSM modem with a built in GPS receiver and a python interpreter. So the users can write their own python code (to run on this modem) and do a lot of things (from dialing a phone # to obtaining GPS data and sending to another phone or a server via SMS).
We are looking for Python script/scripts to pull GPS data from **GM-862 GPS unit (which will be in** NMEA format) and send to a server. At this point we are looking data to be sent via SMS only. If you believe that cannot be achieved, then we might think about GPRS but SMS is the preferred way. Also, the IMEI and Cell ID parameters should be sent to the server as well (and all this can be retrieved from this modem via Python).
On server side, we will need a small utility to parse this incoming data and store in SQL Server database in couple tables. If you cannot do this we can live with CVS file too. We would like to be able to communicate to this modem from the server as well and make global changes. For example, how frequent we need the data to be sent, or send it only on demand (passive tracking)..
TELIT (the manufacturer) has very good documentation with user manuals and has explained python use in much detail on how to do this; we can provide documentation links if needed.
We will not provide any hardware since modem is available throughout the world for about $150 , and Python is free everybody knows. Yet we believe devloper(s) don't even need hardware if they know what they are doing.
