fix google chrome extension problem

so someone made a google chrome extension, so i got the CRX file of it and then unpacked it and re-made it to make it my name ect by editing the files. its a nike twitter program, and you have to click "start" button for it to start. it was working, but now the "start" button wont work. so i cant use the extension. but i learned that whenever they make a new version to the extension the "start" button no longer works, but i have all the files so i need to know why it stops working. i see other people have the same extension and theirs always works even when they update it but mine doesnt.
