This project requires familiarity with the [url removed, login to view] protocol for accessing bibliographic databases. A number of bibliographic databases exist that are maintained by universities or government institutions. The objective of this project is to mirror these databases. More specifically: 1) retrieve library records. The resulting database must be comprehensive. Note: it will contain at least several million records. 2) create a tool to keep the local bibliographic database up-to-date with the remote bibliographic databases. Deliverables: - a tool to fetch records from [url removed, login to view] bibliographic databases - a tool to bring the local bibliographic database up to date with university bib databases. - a recent mirror of 3 databases. Acceptance test: - after the local bibliographic database is brought up to date, any record on the remote bibliographic database must be on the local database. Foreseen difficulties: 1) the data cannot all be downloaded in one go, because it will overload [url removed, login to view] servers. Instead it should be a periodic job that runs at off-peak times e.g. overnight. (cron job?) 2) how to select records so that we can ensure we obtain all records. many bibliographic database servers will
