I am looking for a coder that is very familiar with preparing an "Installation" setup program for a vb6 program on several networked computers and has experience with the ActiveX error. Knowledge of DLLs is also important.
BACKROUND:I have written a vb6 point of sale for restaurants program which incorporates one DLL program and two INI programs using WinNT workstation OS. The program runs fine on a single conputer (Station1) but, in many cases I receive an ActiveX error on the second computer (Station2).
The programs, (the main exe program plus the DLL program plus the INI file) for Station1 are in the folder on the c drive which I will call "URSA". Since each Station may have different variables such as whether the station it is for bartenders or servers, within the URSA folder is a sub folder called STATIONS which contains a separate folder for each Station above Station1. These folders contain a duplicate of the main exe program plus the INI program which contains the Station’s variables for that station.
I have created a two floppy disk installation program for the DLL program using the VB6 Package and Deployment Wizard which I place on both Stations. I install the necessary poggrams in URSA. Then, on Station2 I create a shortuct to the EXE program in the Station2 folder within the STATIONS to bring up the program.
The program always runs fine on Station1. However, about 75% of the time I get an ActiveX error when I atttempt to run the shortcut on Station2.
A very good coder, who is no longer available, said I need an Installation program that would eliminate all my problems. I never found out what he meant. He said the shortcut might not be getting all the necesary information into the registry.
Do you know what he meant by an Installation program?
The coder's answer to the problem must work on three separate networked installation.
The answer whether simple or complicated should provide enough information so that I can execute the answer successfully on three networked installations
