I'm writing a program that will eventually allow the user to search a database that contains foods with nutrition data and pick that food to add to their list (and then it will count the calories for them).
The database is provided by the USDA and is called "National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference Release 18." I uploaded the file I'm using but you can also see more information at the link at the bottom of the description. The one I'm using is the ASCII abbreviated. Its a zip file and all the information is located in that.
Each food item in the file looks like:
~05079~^~CHICKEN,BROILERS OR FRYERS,LEG,MEAT&SKN,CKD,STWD~^64.01^220^24.17^12.92^0.79^0.00^0.0^0.00^11^1.35^20^139^176^73^2.43^0.071^0.019^18.9^0.0^0.054^0.191^4.590^0.812^0.180^6^0^6^6^0.20^124^37^37^0.27^3.5^0^0^0^0^0^3.570^5.040^2.870^84^140.00^~1 cup, chopped or diced~^75.00^~1 unit~^30
Right after the first one is another one. If you look at the file you'll see exactly how it looks.
The "^" seperates the data. So its fat content^calories^carbs... and so on.
I need the program to seperate all the data into arrays or tables so that it can be searched. I need the program written in Visual [url removed, login to view]
