I need a VB program which will check a directory (parameter) for a file (parameter) every x seconds (parameter allowing values between 15 and 3600 seconds) and display this value on the screen.
The parameters should be definable in a separate configuration program (and stored in the registry or a data file). After the values are setup the program to display the value can be run. So in other words after this point the program can run without having to re-enter the parameters each time. Normally I will start the program up automatically via the Windows Startup Group.
The file is a comma separated variable file where the value to be displayed will ALWAYS be the second data item in the file. A sample file ([url removed, login to view]) is attached. In the sample file the value that should be displayed is 91.3. The value to be displayed will ALWAYS be a three digit value with a decimal.
This program will be run on a PC with a screen resolution of 800 by 600. The value needs to be read from a distance so the value displayed should be as large as possible while still fitting on the 800 by 600 display.
The program should have error protection so that if the file doesn't exist or the value can't be read the program should not crash. Instead xx.x will be displayed indicating a problem and the program will try again at the next refresh point.
I prefer the program be written with VB version 6 (or lower) as that is what I have.
