I have a PC that has a UPS attached (APC - Back-UPS RS 800). When the UPS has +/- 20 minutes of power left - it sends a signal to the PC. I would like a windows service program that catches this signal and shuts down the PC with no human intervention. In other words, this service must stop all applications/services running on the PC immediately and shutdown the PC as quickly as possible. Something like if you hold in the power switch of a PC.
No dialogue boxes must pop-up asking the user to stop or halt something.
This PC must shut down properly or my hard drives get corrupt. This PC has no screen, keyboard or mouse attached and therefore can't ask the user to stop or halt or anything. The service must take care of this.
This service must be work on windows XP, windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.
I am not sure what the UPS signal is so perhaps I need a small program (from you) that can catch this so that I can run it on my PC and send you the results.
The UPS is connected to the PC via a USB port
