Tick Tock Maths is a site to help teachers teach mathematics. It is accessable at [url removed, login to view]
== The current site ==
The current website is a Proof Of Concept. It has been hacked together by me, and this is very obvious by the messy and inefficient code.
Each section of the curriculum has PowerPoints, a group of differentiated questions and some links out to the rest of the web. This wants to stay vaguely the same.
== The issues ==
Each page is an individual HTML document. This, I'm aware, is inefficient. What I would really like is for the differentiated questions to be contained in one, dynamically generated HTML page. I would also like the code for the differentiated questions to be cleaned up. I made them whilst learning for code and they are inconsistent in their coding style. I feel that currently adding more modules would be foolish as the site is built on inefficient foundations. I would like the new code to be annotated nicely so new modules can be added to it in a similar style.
I have used JSPDF for the PDF print function. This is inappropriate. JSPDF does not print Mathjax very well nicely at all. I would like a printing solution that prints math output nicely.
I would also like to use my differentiated questions to do 'timed' questions, where teachers select from the current options, but the questions appear full screen, one after another rather than all in one page. I would add more options to this page like pausing the timer, and skipping to the answers even if all ten questions have not been displayed.
1) Provide a solution to the printing problem. The server can run a variety of languages, so this can be server or client side. The print button should print a nice PDF of the questions (for example these ones: [url removed, login to view]) with a second page of answers. This page ([url removed, login to view]) has a proof of concept. The only problem is that JSPDF doesn't handle CSS/MathJax well.
2) Rewrite the existing code base to make it more efficient. This code should be annotated well so that I can add further modules. For instance, currently I have 'modules' for factors and multiples and half of one for fractions. I would like to eventually add one for all of the areas of the curriculum. I do not have the budget to pay someone to do this so will do it myself. Your rewritten code will provide an exemplar that the rest of the site can be based on.
3) Write some code so that for each set of 'differentiated questions' the user could also choose to display them one at a time, with a set timer. The user would be able to set how long each question was displayed for (which, if possible, I would like to be adjustable. So a user could set a timer of 20 seconds, then on question 4, for instance, change the timer so that the rest of the questions were displayed for 40 seconds), and also have an option for stoping and displaying all the answers before the time is up. The timer could be visible on screen.
This project is currently non-profit. It is to help teachers in the classroom, therefore my budget is very small. However, I am very flexible with timing. I am also willing to negotiate a profit share if the website eventual becomes fee-paying (the idea is that when all modules are up, a fee will be charged to schools for use. It will take at a minimum two years for this to happen, if it happens at all).
