Please Note: I AM NOT interested in anything that converts video to flv. I AM NOT trying to create yet another YouTube clone. This component will be used by filmmakers and serious videophiles, which is why I need several file types supported, not just FLV.
To be brief, I need a good video component solution for Joomla. So far, the best (and most stable) one readily
available to my knowledge that has pretty much every feature I want is the Seyret component, located at http://www.joomlaholic.com. However, it is lacking some features that we want added, plus it has bugs.
Currently, the ONLY solution out there that has everything out-the-box that I need is Gallery 2 ([url removed, login to view]). However, Gallery 2 has a lot of other features I DO NOT need, and it is difficult to customize; and the Joomla bridge for this is a bit buggy. A lot of the desired features listed below actually are based upon what Gallery 2 actually has.
In sort... I want a nice, clean solution that does video well.
At a minimum, I'd like to have:
Ability to upload and play NON-flash (.flv) movies. Seyret already supports flash. But, at am minimum, I also need to add the following:
FFMPEG to auto-create thumbnails from the uploaded video. Also, I'd like the user to have the ability to select a frame from the movie if the automatically generated one is not to their satisfaction. I am not sure how difficult this will be to implement.
Custom category cover images. Currently, when an administrator defines a video category, a generic image is automatically used. As an option, we would like for an admin to be able to select or use custom icons if desired.
Member publishing options. Simply put, I want members to have the option to NOT publish a video until they're ready. Right now, from what I've seen and read, this does not work as it should in Seyret.
Limitless category/subcategory capabilities and custom category cover images. We would like for an administrator to be able to select or use custom icons if desired.
Video comments - Members hould be able to leave comments about video. Now this is a YouTube feature I actually like. I have JomComment, but other open source comment components are OK. Feel free to recommend one.
Bug fixes (if required) so that the component runs as it should.
Again, you can use Seyret component and go from there. HOWEVER, if you believe you can make a better solution yourself from scratch, feel free to say so.
Please post any questions to the PMB as needed.
