We have just completed a very similar project on a Linux platform using the GT-511C1R fingerprint scanner integrated into a cubieboard plug computer. We have written software that connects to the fingerprint reader on the serial port and then sends reads to a pho application which controls interfaces for fingerprint enrolment (registration) and recognition. We can supply this as a complete system including hardware and the 'data terminal' running Linux, MySQL and apache/php or we can modify it to work as a windows application.
