I am a Lotus Notes/Domino developer and have mocked up this database [url removed, login to view] which I have running on a development server at home. This will give you a basic idea of what I’m looking for. Unfortunately I’m clueless when it comes to PHP. Here are some basic requirements. I don’t know if you’ve done anything similar to this before but if you have I’m certainly open to any suggestions.
Profile page allows for storage of each pastor’s Sermon Usage statement. This statement, along with their email address will be displayed at the top of each sermon.
New/Edit Sermon page should be comprised of the following fields:
i. This should be a drop down list to the table that stores the Profile pages.
i. Date the sermon was given stored as DDMMYYYY. This will make it easier to integrate into a calendar. Something like that used by a WordPress blog.
[url removed, login to view] should be visually displayed as DD Month, YY.
i. Bible passages used as the basis for the sermon. These should link to [url removed, login to view]
[url removed, login to view] would be like a blog excerpt. On my website this is what is being displayed in the tables.
i. This is the actual sermon. Our pastors type theirs up in Word and then I normally wind up copying and pasting them into Dreamweaver to clean up. I’m very open to suggestions on how to work with the Word documents.
ii. It would be nice if any scripture references used in the sermon were also converted to links but this isn’t a necessity.
i. The above 4 are fields that are internal to a Domino database and so I’m just used to having them. Modified by should just capture the last editor.
ii. Views /tables (I’m referring to the table displays on the web)
i. The more I think about it the more I’d like to see an actual Calendar displayed. Just not sure where the navigator should be. I’ve got it in the head on mine in order to give the most real-estate for the display of the sermon.
i. Drop down list of sermons by pastors’ name. (DUH) Names should appear only if there are any actual sermons posted (not driven by the profile documents).
By Book of the Bible
i. This was a bear for me to work out in my database. I have the books ordered as they appear in the bible so I had to sort a table based on a numeric value that I gave to each book. This is the lookup used for creating a new Sermon document. The view that is on the web only displays a dropdown of the books that have sermons written against them.
That’s a pretty good overall explanation of what I’m after. I don’t know if it would be easier to re-work something like WordPress, PHPNuke or one of the other CMS packages, as there needs to be some kind of client interface for creating the Sermon documents.
