I want to create my own online gaming website. Something 2D. Something like... Gaia + Tinierme + Deviantart + Optional fantasy rpg.
I want the layout to be a lot like Tinierme. First and foremost I want this magical make-believe dream website of mine to be an online community, where people can chat and make avatars and dress them up. I really liked the layout of a game on crunchyroll circa (2008? Ish?), and I wish it had evolved more, but alas. It was removed from the website. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, (which is probably anyone who got this far into reading my post) this game portion of the website gave you an avatar that you could dress up and design - you could even change your avatar base. From there, you could take your avatar and go into a "fighting realm"...Or something of the like. I don't remember the actual name. There, you fought creatures, and they dropped coins. (Also, there was a chat bar at the bottom of the fighting room, so you could chat with other people!) You could then use the coins to buy merchandise from the store. And the best part about this was, if you didn't like any of the merchandise there, you could submit your own clothing and if it was accepted, it would go into the store and you and other people could buy it. You would get the coins from the customers buying your avatar art.
All of this was very rudimentary, of course. Nothing fancy like flash or whatnot. But it was beautiful to my young eyes, and I still think about what could have been.
Now, years later, I've had the thought of starting my own gaming website up for more than a decade, but have never done anything about it. I tried doing some basic googling and had come to the conclusion that I would need to go to school to learn more about programming, but then the thought struck me. What if I could just hire someone to put up with my dreams and try to make them a reality? And here we are.
I have never hired someone for something like this before, so I don't know where my budget needs to be or how I should start.
I have no idea what I'll need for the journey, but I decided to put the idea out there and give it a try. I'm willing to invest, I just want to make sure my investment is worthwhile.
Things I want:
I want a website that:
-allows players to create their own avatar
-buy and sell things on a virtual market
-trade items with other players or to an npc for said virtual currency
-players can design and submit their own clothing ideas, and if it's deemed acceptable, can then be put onto the market for their own sale
-has a forum for talking and exchanging art
For a base. I figure the more complicated bit is going to be making the actual game itself.
I don't want people to have to download anything. I want them to be able to enjoy an in-browser game where they can take their avatar and move them around and explore a virtual world. I want the player to be able to move his or her avatar around (the avatar I want them to be able to make as soon as they join the website) and talk with people they meet online. I do want to make a connected but optional second version of this, where people can play as knights or mages or the like and battle creatures for unique items and unique currency, with the avatar they make on the website.
I want to also have another set of currency that players can buy with real-world cash to get deluxe items for the game.
I have more ideas that I can divulge in private (I'm paranoid people will steal my more original ideas).
I think Gaia and Tinierme use flash, but I'm not sure. (I'm not a coder)
