I am doing a science experiment. I have to make some gears out of metal plate cut by a laser. I need someone to make a CAD/CAM file to give to the workshop that has the CNC laser cutter.
It is important that I know that the gears will definitely work so that I do not waste money making them. I therefore want someone to produce a solidworks or similar video simulating the gears working.
This video on youtube called "weird gears by steve johnson" shows exactly the kinds of gear shape I need. [url removed, login to view] and exactly what my science experiment does.
I do not care about the decorative cut outs in the gears - I want the gears to be completely solid. You only have to design the shape of the gear, the teeth, and the hole for the axle.
If you wach the video above, you will see a central elliptical gear, a round gear next to it that is pivoting on a non central point, and another elliptical gear. I need only those 3 gears, not the entire sculpture.
The two elliptical gears must be exactly 395mm apart center to center. The central round gear must be in between the two elliptical gears, and so must be of the correct size, with the hole in the correct position so as to get the same movement as in the video.
The exact shape of the gears is up to you - I do not care, so long as it works. All axles to be used are 16mm diameter. The number of teeth is up to you. The gears will be cut out of 10mm aluminium plate. I do not want helical shaped teeth. Normal straight cut teeth are fine.
I want 2 things:
First, a video in solidworks or similar programming showing me that the gears you designed work in the same way as the video.
Second, I want CAD files to give to the people at the workshop with the laser cutter to actually cut them out. I also want a PDF of the gears so that I can print it out and look at it/include it in documentation for the experiment.
If you have any questions please let me know.
