### About Tinkilabs We're a Spanish startup creating monthly STEM subscription boxes for kids aged 6-9. Think KiwiCo meets CrunchLabs, but made in Spain with real birch wood, real mechanisms, and zero "educational" fluff. Kids build machines that actually work — then launch, shoot, race and compete with them. ### What We Need A product designer who can take a reference product, reverse-engineer the mechanism, adapt the design, and deliver production-ready files. We're not looking for an inventor — we're looking for someone who can replicate, remix, and prepare for small-scale manufacturing. **12 products in the roadmap.** First project: **Tinki Launcher** — a pump-action disc launcher with auto-feeding 6-disc magazine. ### The Work (First Project — Tinki Launcher) 1. **Reverse engineering** — understand the pump-action mechanism, spring compression, auto-feeding selector from visual references we provide 2. **Adaptation** — modify the design to make it original (not a copy) while keeping the core function 3. **Production-ready deliverables:** - SVG/DXF files for laser cutting in 3mm birch plywood (nested on 300×200mm sheet) - STL files for 3D printed parts (selector, safety switch) - Full BOM using our standardized parts catalog (41 standard components) - Step-by-step assembly sequence (logical order for a child to follow) - Functional prototype — physical unit shipped to us + photos + video of mechanism working ### Materials You'll Work With - Birch plywood 3mm (laser cut) - Clear acrylic 2-3mm (magazine tube + viewing window) - Nylon/PA6 fasteners (M4 bolts, nuts, spacers — all plastic, KiwiCo-style) - Steel springs (compression + return) - EVA foam (discs) - 3D printed PLA/ABS parts (small mechanical pieces) ### Requirements - Proven experience with laser cutting and wood design (portfolio with real prototypes required — renders alone won't cut it) - Proficiency in Fusion 360 or SolidWorks + Inkscape or Illustrator - Experience with 3D printing (FDM) — designing for printability - Ability to reverse-engineer mechanisms from photos/videos - Understanding of design for assembly by children (ages 6-9, no adult help needed) - EU toy safety knowledge (EN 71) is a plus, not required ### What We're NOT Looking For - Digital-only designers (UX/UI, graphic, web) - 3D artists who've never manufactured anything physical - Fashion, interior, or graphic designers ### Terms - **First project:** 400-800 € fixed price (Tinki Launcher, all deliverables) - **Ongoing:** 600-1.200 €/month (2 kits/month × 12 months) - **Timeline:** 3-4 weeks for first functional prototype - **Type:** Fixed price per kit, with ongoing retainer option - **Location:** Remote, async. Weekly video check-ins. ### Why This Is Interesting - 12 products in the pipeline = 6-12 months of consistent work - Creative freedom within constraints — adapt, remix, make it yours - You'll see your designs manufactured and shipped to real kids - Small, fast-moving team — no corporate BS, quick decisions - Clear scope per project — no endless revisions ###Screening questions Send us: 1. **Portfolio** — 3-5 physical products you've designed (real prototype photos, not just CAD renders) 2. **Quote** — fixed price for the Tinki Launcher + monthly rate for 2 kits/month 3. **Timeline** — how long for a functional prototype 4. **Availability** — hours/week you can dedicate

Hi, I went through your brief and this is a real mechanical product development role, not design-only work, so manufacturability, tolerances, and child-safe assembly logic will define success more than CAD visuals. I can reverse engineer the pump-action and auto-feed system from your references, then rebuild it into an original, production-ready mechanism optimized for laser cut birch plywood and FDM printed parts with clean assembly flow for ages 6–9. The full package will include properly nested DXF/SVG sheets, STL files for moving components, a structured BOM aligned to your standard parts catalog, and a clear step-by-step assembly sequence designed for intuitive child construction and safe operation. I’ve worked on similar functional mechanical product and print-to-build systems before and can show relevant examples once we connect in chat. Quick question: do you want the first prototype to prioritize maximum durability under rough use, or smoother mechanical performance for more reliable magazine feeding? Best Regards, Muskan

Hi Tinkilabs Team, Designing functional mechanisms from laser-cut wood often fails due to kerf variations and high friction. For a 6-year-old to assemble a pump-action launcher smoothly without frustration, the tolerances and kinematic layout must be engineered perfectly. As a mechanical engineering team specializing in SolidWorks, DFM, and physical prototyping, we will reverse-engineer your reference mechanism, compensate for 3mm birch plywood kerf, and optimize the 3D-printed selector. We can deliver the nested SVGs, STLs, visual assembly steps, and build the physical prototype within your 4-week timeline for €700 (and €1,100/mo for ongoing kits, 20 hrs/week availability). I have two quick questions regarding your constraints: Should international shipping costs for the physical prototype be included in our fixed quote, or do you provide a courier label? Must we strictly use springs from your 41-part catalog, or can we specify new spring constants for the magazine? Let’s discuss your project now!

Are you looking for a product designer who can reverse-engineer your reference mechanism and turn it into a safe, manufacturable, and scalable STEM kit system that is optimized for laser cutting, injection-style fasteners, and simple child assembly? I work with Fusion 360 and SolidWorks for mechanical design, combined with laser-cut workflow tools for DXF/SVG nesting and FDM-based prototyping for functional validation. My approach for the Tinki Launcher would be to first analyze the pump-action and magazine feed mechanism from your reference materials, then redesign it into an original architecture that preserves functionality while ensuring manufacturability, safety compliance considerations (EN 71 awareness), and ease of assembly for children aged 6–9. Deliverables: The deliverables will include production-ready DXF files optimized for 3mm birch plywood sheets, STL files for all 3D printed mechanical components such as selector and safety mechanisms, a fully structured BOM aligned with your standard parts catalog, and a step-by-step assembly guide designed for intuitive child-friendly construction. I can also support early prototyping and iteration to ensure the mechanism performs reliably before scaling into production. Best Regards, Hasan

Hello, I've reviewed your project and understand you're looking for a product designer to reverse engineer, adapt, prototype, and prepare production ready STEM kit mechanisms for manufacturing, starting with the Tinki Launcher. Your approach stood out because the focus is on real mechanical products rather than educational toys with simplified functionality. I understand the first kit requires analysis of the pump action launcher, adaptation into an original design, laser cut birch components, 3D printed parts, BOM creation, assembly workflow, and a fully functional prototype suitable for manufacturing and testing. I work with production focused CAD development and understand the importance of designing around laser cutting constraints, assembly by children, part standardization, and repeatable manufacturing. With a 12 product roadmap, it is important to establish a robust design system from the first kit so future products can be developed efficiently and consistently. You can review my work here: https://www.freelancer.com/u/GridsmithLTD Will you be providing photos and videos of the reference launcher only, or do you also have an existing physical sample available for measurement and mechanism validation? Regards, Atik
