Lactic acid helps relax and smooth down the cuticles of the hair, helping seal in moisture while making hair more manageable and less frizzy. Lemon has citric acid which lowers pH to about 2 and 3. Aloe vera, panthenol, and vegetable glycerine are humectants as well as lubricants and pH balancing agents. They also improve hair texture. BTMS-25 (Behentrimonium methosulfate and Cetearyl alcohol) is an emulsifier that is naturally obtained from grapeseed oil. Wheat protein fills up porous strands and gives it more structure and moisture retention properties. Plant extracts can be used for hair conditioning and they include chamomile, cucumber, onion and green tea. Potassium sorbate is used as a preservative and the surfactant is usually coco-glucoside.
