Patch orphan software to keep it running

JOB: I need to have an existing .exe file running on 64 bit windows patched.
1) ESSENTIAL: Given that there is no intention to continue developing the software by the family of the deceased owner, I would like it to be patched to stop the nag screen where you have to press a key to continue.
2) NICE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL: Skip the check of which OS it is running on (not essential, only if can be done in 10 minutes or so)
NATURE OF TASK:
Forgive my 30 year old IT knowledge, but I presume this would involve disassembling the compiled .exe file and potentially recompiling after the requested change. Alternatively, somehow working out where the OS version check is done and pretending that a keypress has been received or skipping the check altogether.
IF YOU ACCEPT:
The program also has a licence file check. I will provide my licence file for you to be able to run the .exe
SUCCESS criteria:
I have prepared a set of directories varying in difference ways on my Win7 machine. I will execute various commands on my sample folders using my existing [login to view URL] (generating folders "e:\testnnXX"), and will then execute identical commands using the patched .exe being asked for (generating folders e:\testnnXP\). After that, I will compare the testnnXX folders against the corresponding testnnXP folders on file attributes, including date, size, RASH bits, and binary file content). If identical, the job will be defined as a success - i.e. I am just going to check if the rest of the program still works once you patch the OS check.
BACKGROUND and ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS
XXcopy is software which was orphaned by the death of its operator, Kan Yabumoto, last year. The software was great and, when it nagged that we had to upgrade after installing a new OS, we were all very happy to pay. In fact, to support the author, I bought 3 licences even though I only needed one. However, work is now forcing me to move to Win10, and the program will not run unattended as it requires a keypress each time it runs. As I use the program in many unattended batch files, this makes it almost unusable for me. I attach a discontinuation notice, indicating that the company is not taking any more orders - otherwise I would be happy to just purchase a new licence. I have contacted the owner's company's shutdown query email address, but have not had a response.
