Development of a traffic monitoring mobile application for BlackBerry and IPhone.
On the source side - data from stationary street cameras are pulled into a database
On the service side - the mobile (BB or IPhone) application queries the database to extract the most recent photo from a particular camera.
There seems to be two parts to this solution:
1.) A program that pulls photos from camera and saves these photos to a database.
Each photo or series of photos will represent a street.
2.) A program that sits on a mobile phone which queries the database for the photos (i.e. the street name).
Therefore, Each camera or series of cameras represents a street view.
The User Interface design of the mobile phone application is key to the success of this application.
A search function to enable users to search for a 'street name' and obtain a view of that street from a single camera or a series of cameras, as the number of cameras are scaled up, is most important.
As more cameras are added, a method for updating the software on the phone to accommodate this additions is essential.
Also, as cameras are removed, a method of updating the software on the phone is also essential.
Attached is a schema of how I anticipate it working. Please make changes as you see fit and we can discuss further.
A single database implementation and then an Iphone application and BlackBerry application that can pull info from the data base is how I imagine the final solution. The aim is to include an android mobile app in the future.
