We are switching our website over to Wordpress, but we currently use a web-to-print solution for generating print ready files. Our site is really their site, which is why we're switching. We can mix much of the functions into our new site, but it's not clean.
Wordpress will give us everything we need except a web-2-print solution utilizing variable data that a customer inputs. For now, we'd be happy with a simple business card module, where clients can input their unique card information and then see a proof online. From that point, a customer can submit the order and we'll have a print ready PDF on our end.
I am open to suggestions here. The only thing our current software does is business cards for clients. As long as we can accomplish that, we don't need the service provider we are currently using for this service. This will be an ongoing project, but this is a crucial first step. It doesn't have to be pretty, just functional. We are perfectly capable of a little cleanup if necessary. We can also buy back web technologies, or use existing ones. We have the entire gammut of graphics design software available, so if we can script the web form data into Indesign, and have it kick back a pdf online, that could work. We can also buy software tools if it will simplify the project.
If this works, it will lead to more work down the road.
