Proofread and do copy editing on a sample chapter of my manuscript for me to evaluate whether I could have you do the rest. I have had two bad experiences with people who claimed to have the expertise, who have then bludgeoned the text and introduced errors of their own to the manuscript. The book consists of some 152,000 words in 30 chapters. It is a roman a clef. If I am happy with the way in which you edited the sample chapter, I may have you do more or all. Bid on the entire project, bearing in mind that it is contingent on you editing a sample chapter to my satisfaction before any more work gets awarded.
Specify whether you work in MS-Word or OpenOffice. You will be required to track your changes so that I can accept or reject them. Before you return the sample chapter, make sure there are NO errors, whether mine or yours. Make sure that paragraph indentations are consistent and headers and footers remain intact. Add comments and questions where you may be unsure rather than plow ahead on assumption. Unless you know exactly what I mean, do not change a sentence and remove or add commas that will change its meaning. Keep stylistic changes to a bare minimum. My writing style is my own and I want to keep it like that.
