I am looking for engineers to design and then build a prototype underwater drone.
The purpose of the drone is to remove biofoul from the hulls of large cargo ships. Over time, mollusks and other life that attach to the bottom of a ship’s hull, increasing drag and reducing fuel efficiency.
Currently biofoul is removed at great cost with divers, and also at a great loss of at-sea time. Our solution lets ships clean themselves while in transit.
We want to be able to control the drone similarly to the way the Trident drone is controlled. See [url removed, login to view] You may even use their software.

Drag Along Power Generation. The drone needs to be able to replenish its batteries by being dragged by the ship, or while attached to it. Therefore the props need to be able to generate power as well as produce thrust.
Payload. On the top of the drone there needs to be room for the grinding mechanism. This is 6 feet by 1’10” by 10”.
Speed. The drone needs to be able to maintain high underwater speeds of up to 20 kts, for periods of up to 10 minutes. Faster is better, so that the drone can move forward under the moving ship to address new patches, before attaching and recharging.
Connectivity. The drone needs to be able to be controlled via a tether with a wifi bouy, similar to the Trident. The drone should broadcast video to the operator, as well as other sensor data.
