Programme Leadership
You have beenworking forsometime in a large organisationthat frequently hasseveral programmes of projectsrunning at any one time. You haverecently undertaken an externaltraining course inprogramme leadership andyou have now been given your first opportunity to managea programme for your organisation. As this is your first programme you are expectedto check each stepyou take with an experiencedmentor in the organisation.
In carrying out this assignmentyou should either use anorganisation you have orcurrently work for and know well at strategiclevel or you should use the case study material provided.
Firstly you needto consider the businessstrategy in order to plan andagree the programme andprojects.
Task 1
In preparationfor your first meetingwith your mentor make detailed notes onthe following:
An analysisofthe business strategy andidentify programme objectivesand benefits
Howyou intend to negotiate withidentified stakeholdersto establish a range ofprojects whichdeliver the programmebenefits
You then need to:
Produce a planfor the programme andexplain how you will agree the programme withthe programme management group
Produce a planfor the projects and [login to view URL] how you will agree these projects andactivities with the projectmanagers
Your second consultationwith your mentor will be a conversation.
Task 2
At themeeting you intend to giveyour mentor a hand-outshowing how you willlead the programme of related projects. Thehand-out must coverthe following areas:
Howyou will lead the co-ordinationof the projects within the programme
Howyou will manage the programmeresources toachieve the project and programme objectives
Howyou will review and monitorthe projects andaddress any issuesthat arise
Howyou will report programmeprogress and results to stakeholders
Howyou will close down the projectsandprogramme
Your finalpreparatory meeting withyour mentor concernsthe evaluation of the programme.
Task 3
You must make detailed noteson the following areas;
Howyou will assess the successof the projects with the project managers
Howyou will review the success of theprogramme in deliveringbenefits and meeting the objectives
Howyou will analyse areas for futureimprovement in programme management andleadership
