The use of the term social entrepreneurship is gaining increased popularity and growth. However, it is still a relatively nascent term full of confusion and uncertainty. What exactly does a social entrepreneur do? Who are social entrepreneurs and how do they differ from traditional entrepreneurs? Do they differ? The term is ill-defined, fragmented with very little consensus from academics, practitioners, and even social entrepreneurs themselves.
For this project you will be reflecting on a number of reading i will share with you, and others that you may find in your research. You will find that there is not one definition or conceptualization of the term “social entrepreneurship”, and so you will share your thoughts on what you think it means. Some things to consider in your reflection and as you read:-What definitions are you comfortable with? What definitions are you not comfortable with? -Is there a definition you can come up with that has components of the various definitions?-Does a social entrepreneur have to be innovative? Must their mission always come first? Do they have to make a change for it to be considered social entrepreneurship, or is intention enough? I am looking for thoughtful and critical reflections that are personal but also well researched. Please use the questions I have just shared for guidance, but not for structure.
