I have been working on MEPF projects for over 15 years now and my workflow is very effective in producing clash free models. I am an experienced Revit modeler and navisworks manage user. My Typical and Effective Workflow 2D MEP CAD DRAWINGS TO REVIT 3D MODEL TYPICAL WORKFLOW 1. Ask Geo technical location of the 2D drawings (if available) 2. Ask for any reference model like Architectural model or structural model for proper placement of the MEP entities ( if available then use the existing Levels and Grids for proper modeling) 3. Check 2D cad drawings 4. Check if 2D lines are layered properly. 5. Export cad based on layer per discipline (ex. HVAC, PLM, Fire Pro, Elec.. etc 6. Link ARC or STR model into Revit 2026 7. Import exported 2d cad into Revit 2026 8. Move 2d drawings using the Linked revit models as references. 9. Check sections/elevations and see if Levels are present 10. Create MEP plans in the Project Browser 11. Set layer and colors for visibility in plans and 3D. 12. Set routing preference and correct materials for the element type. 13. Start modeling per discipline 14. Once done, export to NWC per discipline 15. Append all the NWCs into Navisworks and save as one Federated model in the format NWF and NWD 16.
