I’m setting up an autonomous (control of speed only - no autonomous navigation capability required), ultra-light trolley that can roll over a level outdoor surface, capture every code in its path, and report the data in real time. The core task is straightforward: bring together barcode reader, cameras, Infrared camera, GPS receiver (RTK), and ToF sensors so the platform can see, focus, and reliably decode barcodes as it moves—no manual intervention, no tethered laptop. Besides this, also take IR image of the scanned area. Data must be stored locally and also communicated to a server over wi-fi/LoRa/4G network, along with with precise GPS location. Push button - start and stop. This is a non-AI/ML project. Open source software only. No dependencies or additional costs of software. Project scope: 1. Integration of 2 barcode readers, 4 small cameras, 1 higher resolution camera, 1 IR camera, 4 geared motors for driving the wheels and synchronizing them; control of the speed of the wheels with Laser/ultrasonic ToF sensors, GPS location, all of this synched in time. 2. Data/information to be processed and stored: two barcode values, confirmation of barcode reading, count, synchronization of barcode and cameras with the speed (near zero at the time of capture), IR image, image of 4 barcodes (as and when captured), GPS location, and date/time. Live transmission of serial number, read/no read, count, location, date/time to connected device. 3. To interact with and control the devices, a web based UI running on the MCU/SBC (RaspberryPi/STM32/Arduino), connected to a laptop/tablet over wi-fi/USB/4G/Ethernet. Parameters to be controlled - Device selection, speed of motors and activation and de-activation of cameras based on input from ToF sensors, and setup of controls of the ToF sensors 4. Documentation of the system architecture and step-by-step method of setting up and operating the devices. 5. Troubleshooting guide. 6. Risks, if any 7. Telephonic support for problems if they arise (30 min between 11:00 AM to 12:00PM and/or 30 min between 3:00PM to 4:00PM) for a duration of 3 months after the handover - total of 6 hours. Key capability The trolley’s sole mission is barcode acquisition. It must steer itself, keep a stable reading distance, trigger the imager automatically, and relay each result to a local edge computer or over Wi-Fi/LTE. Operating conditions Everything happens on a flat but outdoor surface, so sunlight, dust, and wind gusts are part of the equation. Please select lenses, illumination, housings, and drive components that thrive outside while keeping overall weight low enough for one person to lift into a van. 3-4 hours of reliable and highly safe power supply with one backup set. Charger to be planned accordingly. The device has to be assembled and dismantled easily for use and transportation. Transportability is important. Remote guidance for assembly of the components would be preferred and software components will be uploaded remotely. What I expect from you • A complete electromechanical design: chassis, drive train, battery sizing, sensor placement, and weather-resistant enclosures • Detailed BOM with part numbers that can be sourced in India • Control firmware (Arduino, STM, Raspberry Pi or similar) with autonomous navigation, obstacle detection via ToF, and interface for the decoded data • Simple operator dashboard to start/stop tasks, input speed control of the trolley, options to activate -de-activate sensors, monitor battery and connectivity; data transfer and readouts on the fly. Store the data locally as per desired format and export to csv/xlsx. Acceptance criteria The prototype must run for 3-4 hours on a single charge, maintain speed as per the command from ToF sensor and control program, activate the barcode reader + camera as per input from ToF sensor and programmed, and achieve 99.5 % image capture. Web based UI on the MCU that can be connected to a laptop/PC through wi-fi / ethernet/USB. Live data (read/not read, barcode serial number and count) transmission to the Laptop through wi-fi/4G LTE/Bluetooth in real time. Data stored on the MCU - Barcode serial number + Count + GPS Location + image from all cameras + ToF sensor On/Off commands. If you’ve built mobile robots, AGVs, or smart carts before—and you’re comfortable merging computer vision with embedded motion control—I’m ready to dive into the details and set milestones right away.
