- We want to provide for Safari internet browser users as similar an experience as possible to that of Chrome/FF/IE users with respect to adding [url removed, login to view]
as a built-in search website for their browser's search bar. This is accomplished using a very simple XML search extension for Chrome/FF/IE, however Safari doesn't support these.
currently provides a list of search engines in its Preferences dialog including Google, Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. It does not seem possible to add to this list via a browser extension.
- Proposed solution: We suggest writing a Safari extension that adds a dropdown list of search engines directly into the Safari browser's main view (not to the preferences page), to include [url removed, login to view] as an option. Then every search the user performs will be directed to the selected search site. If we simply "hijacked" searches
and directed them all to [url removed, login to view], users might be confused as to why their selection of search engine in the Preferences dialog wasn't being respected, so that's why we propose adding the new dropdown.
