A year ago I had been ousted from the company I founded, Geraldine’s Bodacious Food Co., no income, and living out of my car, couch surfing at 61 years old. Not exactly where I had plan to land as a senior citizen.
Today, I have regained control of my company and my life, and will hopefully be merging with a larger food company giving me the ability to take Geraldine’s Cheese Straws from good to great, rebranding to “ Mama Geraldine’s” in the fall. That is just a small part of my story.
During my “ousting” where my now “Wasband” attempted to take over Geraldine’s, I chose to make good use of my time by taking a screenwriting class. My most significant learning was that I am not a screenwriter. I am a story teller with a compelling one to share about the challenges of building a business from scratch while trying to raise a family. However, the best parts of my story don’t always emerge from overcoming adversity. They seem to appear from the comedy and drama created from trying to acclimate to a blue collar culture, and the colorful characters I’ve collected along my journey.
In screenwriting terms, think Norm Ray, meets Joy, meets Fried Green Tomatoes.
The LAST cheese STRAW.
Is my working title.
