The project will be to develop an application for Raspberry Pi model B that will receive a MP3 audio stream, decode the stream, and output the audio via the Pi's audio output or to a USB sound card. The audio stream will be sent via UDP with a datagram for each audio frame and the code should handle the stream with and without RTP headers. If the stream is an RTP stream, the player should handle some basic packet re-ordering if packets are received out of sequence. The application should run as a background command line application that can be ran as a daemon process.
The architecture for the project is open, but should be cross-platform with different Linux and Unix variants. Some possible platforms include Python or C++ with a cross-platform audio library, like PortAudio or PyAudio. All libraries and dependencies must be non-GPL with BSD and similar licensing preferred.
