My Ubuntu 22.04 server with 16 GB of RAM refuses to go past the GRUB / boot splash after a simple power-cycle earlier today. Nothing else was changed—I literally shut it down, powered it back on, and it stalled. The machine has what I believe is a RAID 1 setup, yet there are three SSDs in the array, so I’m not completely sure how it was configured. Unfortunately none of the data is backed up, so recovering the system intact is critical. The box is sitting beside me right now and I can provide live console access (iKVM, IPMI, or a video call while I hook up a keyboard and monitor). I need to be operational again by tomorrow morning, so I’m looking for someone who can jump in immediately, diagnose the boot failure, repair any GRUB or mdadm issues, and verify the integrity of the RAID set without risking data loss. If additional steps such as fsck, reinstalling the bootloader, or re-assembling the array are needed, please guide me through them or perform them over SSH once the system is up. Deliverables (acceptance criteria) • Server boots cleanly into Ubuntu with all services reachable. • RAID array is assembled and synced, with a clear explanation of the three-disk layout. • Memory check results confirming the 16 GB are recognised. • Short post-mortem so I know what went wrong and how to avoid it next time. Tools you’ll probably lean on: GRUB-rescue, mdadm, smartctl, fsck, and any live-USB recovery environment you prefer. I can burn an ISO or plug in a prepared flash drive if required. If you’re available to start right away and confident in deep Linux/RAID troubleshooting, please let me know your plan of attack and an estimated timeframe.

I'm Iosif Peterfi, 15+ years... This is my speciality: rapid, risk-managed recovery of Linux boot failures and RAID configurations, with live access and non-destructive checks to protect data. You need urgent diagnosis of a boot hang at GRUB on Ubuntu 22.04, with a suspected three-disk RAID, no backups, and a plan to repair, re-assemble, verify memory, and restore services while keeping data safe. My approach will deliver a bootable system, a clearly documented RAID layout, confirmed memory recognition, and a concise post-mortem, with guided steps if needed to minimize downtime and risk. Last quarter I helped a manufacturing IT team recover a Linux server with a three-disk RAID after a power event; we restored boot quickly, preserved all data, and achieved a faster-than-expected recovery with a clear root-cause summary. The result was minimal downtime and a documented plan to prevent recurrence. Let's chat - I can walk you through my plan in 15 minutes.

Hi there, I have over 10 years work experience with linux and issues like this. What we need is first see the issue logs, probably a liveboot could help us debug the problem (really depends on the issue) (you probably wanna create a liveboot/USB Live "cd") and then we can mount the FS with it and chroot in it. Then we may be able to debug the RAID via mdadm and see what's in it (I'd assume LVG/LVS). Ping me and lets discuss it. Cheers

Hi, I’m a Linux system administrator with **6 years of related experience** troubleshooting boot failures, GRUB issues, and RAID (mdadm) recovery on Ubuntu servers, ensuring safe data integrity while restoring full system access and services. ✅ A quick question: do you see any specific error message or does it freeze silently right after the GRUB menu/boot splash? Best regards, Amita

Hello, I understand your Ubuntu 22.04 server with a RAID setup refuses to boot past GRUB and data recovery is critical. I will diagnose the boot failure, repair GRUB, check and assemble the RAID array with mdadm, and verify data integrity without risking loss. I will also perform memory and filesystem checks, ensuring the server boots cleanly with all services reachable. A short post-mortem will document the issue, three-disk RAID layout, and preventive recommendations. I am experienced with live console recovery, GRUB-rescue, fsck, smartctl, and RAID troubleshooting. I can work immediately via SSH, iKVM, or IPMI and guide you through any necessary steps, including bootloader reinstall or array re-assembly. Estimated timeframe: within a few hours, depending on array state. Thanks, Asif

Hi there! You have an Ubuntu 22.04 server stuck at the GRUB splash after a power cycle, and the real challenge is recovering it without any data loss while correctly handling the unclear RAID 1 setup — that is exactly where most urgent recoveries fail. I’ve restored Linux servers in similar critical situations, diagnosing GRUB and RAID issues while keeping all data intact. I will access your server, inspect and repair the bootloader, verify and reassemble the RAID array safely, and ensure all services are reachable and memory is recognized. Check our work: https://www.freelancer.com/u/ayesha86664 Can you confirm whether all three SSDs are visible to the BIOS and Linux rescue environment before we start? I am ready to start — just say the word. Best Regards, Ayesha

So I think this job is an ideal match with my skills and experience. I can help you get the system booting again, verify RAID integrity, ensure all 16 GB RAM is recognized, and provide a clear post‑mortem. Please send me a message so that we can discuss more. Thanks, Taras

Hi, I can help you with this right away. From what you described, this looks like a typical case of RAID/GRUB breaking after a power cycle — especially with a 3-disk setup where the layout isn’t very clear (could be RAID1 with a spare or something more custom). I’ve handled similar situations before where the system gets stuck at boot but the data is still intact. My approach will be to first check the current state from console (GRUB + mdadm), then if needed boot into a live environment to safely assemble the array and inspect everything without touching your data. After that, I’ll fix the bootloader properly and make sure it’s installed across the correct disks so this doesn’t happen again. I’ll also verify the RAID status, check disk health, and only run filesystem repair if it’s actually needed (and safely). Once it’s back up, I’ll confirm all services are working and give you a quick explanation of how your 3-disk RAID is set up and what caused the issue. I’m available to start immediately and we can do it together over iKVM/IPMI or even a quick call while you connect the console. This kind of issue usually takes 1–2 hours depending on the RAID state, and I’ll stay with you until it’s fully resolved. Let me know when you’re ready and we can start. Hi, I can start immediately and handle this safely. I have solid experience with Ubuntu boot recovery, GRUB repair, mdadm RAID troubleshooting, filesystem checks, and live recovery on production systems where data preservation is critical. My approach will be to first identify whether the issue is GRUB, mdadm assembly, filesystem corruption, or a failed SSD, then recover boot access with the least risky path and verify the RAID layout and disk health before making any permanent changes. I can work with iKVM/IPMI, direct console, or a live USB environment if needed. Once the server is back up, I will confirm RAID status, check memory recognition, verify services, and give you a short post-mortem with prevention steps. I understand this is urgent and that you need the machine operational by tomorrow morning. I’m available to begin right away.
