Freelance Saree Designer (Cotton-first | Weaver-ready designs)

We at Tanvaya (starting-up, not yet live) are looking for a designer to help us create a collection of sarees. About Tanvaya Tanvaya is building a design-led saree brand focused on wearable, timeless cotton sarees first (plain body + strong borders/pallu), and then expanding into hero crafts. What we need A designer who can create production-ready saree designs (not just pretty concepts). Designs should be clear enough for weavers/printers to execute with minimal confusion. Scope of work - Create saree layouts: Body + Border + Pallu + Blouse piece - Develop repeat-ready motifs (grid/graph or repeat tile) - Provide colorways and placement maps - Prepare tech packs for vendors (weavers / handblock printers) - Support sampling iterations: simplify/adjust for feasibility and costing Design direction (Phase 1) - Plain cotton sarees with woven borders + pallu language - Handblock cotton sarees with limited blocks (1–3), clean borders, neat pallus - A signature look that can scale across multiple SKUs Deliverables per design - 1 saree layout sheet (body/border/pallu/blouse) - Motif repeat (tile) + dimensions in ends/picks OR repeat measurements - 2–3 colorways - Production notes (print layers OR weaving notes + complexity level) Must-have skills - Motif + repeat design (understands symmetry, spacing, negative space) - Practical textile sense (cotton behavior, shrinkage basics, print alignment basics) - Can communicate clearly with weavers/printers Tools: Illustrator/Procreate/Photoshop (any is fine) Nice-to-have - Handloom / handblock experience - Ability to make simple graph motifs Engagement - Start with a paid trial: 3 designs - If it works: ongoing monthly work (e.g., 8–12 designs/drop)
