I am looking for an experienced and professional translator to translate approximately 6600 words from English to Japanese (hiragana/katakana). The project is for a mobile app to help people learn foreign languages. Therefore, the translations that you produce must be done very carefully and must be 100% accurate.
Of the 6600 words, approximately 450 words are for the user interface of the app itself--buttons, short bits of text, information for the user, etc.
The remaining words (6150) are in the form of a list of individual words in Excel format. Basically, these are the most common several thousand words in English. Next to each word, you’ll see the part of speech (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) I have also provided short explanations for words which have multiple meanings (for example, “break”), so you’ll know how to translate them correctly. Your task is to translate this long list of words into Japanese in the Excel document.
In addition to the translation task, there is one additional task. In order to help speakers of Japanese learn other languages, it is necessary to provide short “hints” next to any Japanese words which have multiple meanings within one part of speech (for example, a Japanese word which, used as a verb, can mean different things.) I have done this for English already, but you will need to consider which of the words in your language have multiple meanings, and add similar “hints” (in Japanese). For example, for the English version for the word “cream”, I could say “for coffee”, so that an English speaker understands that we are not talking about cream for your skin. The words that will require hints in English will not necessarily need these hints in your language, but other words in your language will require hints even if they don’t in English.
I will provide more detailed instructions for this part of the task when I award the project. It is difficult to estimate how long that part of the task will take you. If your language has many words with multiple meanings (within one part of speech), you will need to add more “hints”. For the English version, I had to add hints for approximately 25% of the words. The total number of words for the hints in English is about 3200. At a rough guess, it would probably take you at least several hours to do this part of the task.
Therefore, there are 3 parts to the task:
Translate about 450 words to be used in the app itself.
Translate about 6150 individual words into Japanese.
Add “hints” for Japanese words which have multiple meanings.
You can look at the PDF image that I’ve uploaded. In Column A, you’ll see the explanations I’ve provided to clarify the meaning of the words in English (when necessary) so that they can be translated correctly. Column B is the part of speech of each word. Column C contains the list of words to be translated. In Column D, you’ll add the translations in Japanese. In Column E, you’ll add “hints” where necessary. (Column F is the hints I’ve added for the English version).
We can set up a separate milestone for each of these 3 tasks. I will add the necessary funds to cover all the milestones.
Thanks in advance!
