Help design a backup solution for VSphere (VMware ESX and ESXi)

We are looking for a VMware expert to help us design a method to backup vSphere VMs using our Windows backup program. Our program will have to run in a Windows VM, but we want a way to somehow automatically back up other VMs (perhaps from the Host, in a separate process), making the backups available to our Windows program so we can then send them offsite or to a local device. We don’t necessarily need you to write it for us, rather, we are looking for some design help in the very early stages.
