We are seeking assistance from a developer with an advanced understanding of Wordpress customisation to make some immediate additions/updates and then help maintain an existing news website built on Wordpress.
The website is two years old and has undergone one significant re-design in that time. It features over 3,000 news articles (posts), a business directory and more than 50 plugins. It employs a combination of categories and custom fields to populate numerous JS queries throughout the site.
It is due for an upgrade (to Wordpress 3.0.3) and has some bugs that need attention. We are seeking assistance from one or more persons able to make immediate improvements/fixes and help maitain the site over the longer term.
A strong understanding of the English language (written and spoken) is essential.
IMMEDIATE TASKS
1. Hidden logo section in footer: An area was developed during development to display site sponsor's logos. This has been built into the design but is currently 'hidden'. This needs to made active again, and tweaked to reflect the needs of the business before 1 January 2011. THIS TASK REQUIRES URGENT ATTENTION (see attached).
2. Disqus Latest Comments: The site employs Disqus as a plugin to manage site comments (in addition to Akismet). Spam comments (even after deletion) continue to appear as 'Latest Comments' in the site's right sidebar (JS query). This is a problem that requires attention from a developer who understands Disqus and Akismet (or has the skills to learn).
3. Site Upgrade: The site needs an upgrade and 'clean up'. Many of the 50+ plugins are no longer in use. This is not a 're-design' project. It is a job for a cautious and diligent person to upgrade to the latest version of Wordpress without disrupting the plugins in use (this means that the developer will need to establish which plugins are important and upgrade these accordingly).
Other smaller projects:
The addition of extra advertising blocks (the site employs Google's Doublick Adplanner to manage ads).
The addition of Meebo (without disrupting the design of the site).
The development of a login (subscriber) area of the site (larger project for later implementation).
In your response, please provide quotes for fulfilment of EACH of the three items above (treat as three separate projects -- ie please provide three quotes). Please also provide your hourly rate (as I am interested in hiring one or more persons to assist with site maintenance over the longer term).
