We run a live WordPress / WooCommerce webshop behind Cloudflare on a Linode/cPanel server. We are experiencing abnormal automated traffic that started only recently, after website redevelopment and changes to our advertising setup. For many years we monitored live visitors daily and never saw this pattern before. The current issue includes: * large waves of browser-like visitors from Singapore, Malaysia and other regions * rotating IP addresses * traffic reaching category/product pages and sometimes cart/checkout * very short sessions with no referrer * high server load and many 5xx errors during attack periods * previous abnormal WooCommerce actions such as add-to-cart / wishlist traffic * Cloudflare blocking rules sometimes causing false positives for real customers We do not want someone who simply adds more blocking rules or installs another security plugin. We need an experienced security engineer who can perform a proper root-cause investigation. Required investigation: * Apache/cPanel raw access log analysis * Cloudflare Security Analytics / Traffic / WAF review * Cloudflare audit/change history * check whether the Linode origin can be accessed directly and bypass Cloudflare * Linode firewall / CSF / server network configuration * WordPress and WooCommerce plugin review * REST API / AJAX / cron / generated action URLs * Google Tag Manager / Google Ads / tracking / Pixel Manager changes * DNS, [login to view URL], sitemap and feeds * malware / backdoor / file integrity review * timeline comparison: what changed immediately before the abnormal traffic started * identification of the actual source and mechanism of the traffic Deliverables: 1. Clear written root-cause conclusion 2. Evidence supporting the conclusion 3. Exact example IPs, requests, timestamps and affected endpoints 4. Separation of confirmed facts vs hypotheses 5. Recommended remediation steps 6. Confirmation whether this is external bot traffic, crawler abuse, application behaviour, configuration error, origin bypass, compromise, or a combination Important: * Do not make production changes without approval. * Do not block countries or checkout globally. * Do not disable Google/AdsBot traffic. * Preserve logs and evidence. * We want diagnosis first, remediation second. Please only apply if you have proven experience with: * WordPress/WooCommerce security * Cloudflare WAF / Security Analytics * Linux/cPanel servers * web server log analysis * bot / crawler abuse * incident response In your proposal, explain how you would investigate this issue step-by-step before making changes.

Hi there, I have extensive experience managing bot traffic and server performance for high-volume WordPress/WooCommerce shops. Your description points to post-launch automated traffic causing load issues. My approach starts with a forensic root cause analysis: first, I'll analyze Cloudflare logs and recent Google Analytics data to identify suspicious patterns—bots often target specific endpoints or mimic user behavior. Next, I'll audit your server logs and WooCommerce configuration for vulnerabilities, checking for any recent changes that may have exposed endpoints. Finally, I'll implement targeted Cloudflare firewall rules to block malicious traffic and optimize server settings on Linode/cPanel to handle the load efficiently, ensuring your shop stays secure and responsive. Hello, your diagnosis-first approach is exactly right for preserving evidence and avoiding false positives. I would begin by preserving Apache/cPanel and Cloudflare logs, building a timestamped traffic baseline, and correlating IPs, requests, user agents, status codes, endpoints, and server load. I would then review Cloudflare audit/WAF history, origin exposure, Linode/CSF configuration, WordPress/WooCommerce APIs, cron activity, plugins, tracking changes, DNS, feeds, and file integrity. I would clearly separate confirmed evidence from hypotheses before recommending approved remediation. I will provide the requested root-cause report with representative IPs, requests, timestamps, affected endpoints, timeline comparisons, and a prioritized remediation plan that protects legitimate customers and advertising traffic. Hello, I’m Daniel. This needs evidence-led diagnosis, not wider blocking rules. I will preserve the baseline and make no production changes until findings and remediation are approved. I will correlate Apache/cPanel logs with Cloudflare events and audit history, mapping IPs, times, agents, paths, status codes and rates. This will identify direct-origin access and affected product, cart, checkout, REST, AJAX, cron and generated endpoints. I will compare origin, DNS, firewall/CSF, plugin, integrity, scheduled-action and GTM/Ads evidence against the incident timeline. Thank you for your time. Hello, I can investigate this incident methodically while preserving evidence and avoiding unapproved production changes. I would first secure and correlate Apache/cPanel, Cloudflare, and Linode timestamps, then compare WAF events, audit history, origin exposure, firewall rules, and direct-origin requests. Next, I would review WordPress/WooCommerce plugins, REST/AJAX endpoints, cron activity, generated URLs, tracking scripts, GTM, Ads, DNS, feeds, and file integrity. I would identify exact IPs, requests, endpoints, and response patterns, separating confirmed evidence from hypotheses before recommending remediation. I would also assess false positives affecting legitimate customers and server-load causes without broadly blocking regions or advertising crawlers. Regards Muhammad

Hi How are you doing? I’d approach this as a forensic investigation first, not a blocking exercise. I’ll correlate Apache logs, Cloudflare analytics/WAF and audit history, origin exposure, Linode/CSF configuration, WordPress/WooCommerce activity, REST/AJAX/cron requests, tracking changes, DNS and file integrity against the timeline. I’ll document evidence with IPs, timestamps and endpoints, clearly separating confirmed findings from hypotheses before recommending any remediation. Looking forward to identifying the actual cause. Hey, I’ve reviewed your WordPress/WooCommerce incident: abnormal rotating IP waves, short sessions, cart/checkout hits, and 5xx during bot-like periods after the redevelopment and ad/tracking changes. Instead of adding generic blocks, I’ll perform a root-cause investigation across Apache/cPanel access logs, Cloudflare Security Analytics/WAF, and the Cloudflare change history to isolate whether this is bot/crawler abuse, origin bypass, or an application/plugin behavior. First I’ll preserve logs and build a timeline of “what changed” (redeploy + Google Tag Manager / Google Ads / Pixel Manager / generated action URLs). Then I’ll correlate timestamps and exact request patterns to Cloudflare events and possible origin access (direct Linode path bypassing Cloudflare), followed by WordPress/WooCommerce plugin and endpoint review (AJAX/REST/cron/canonical flows) plus file integrity and backdoor checks. You’ll get a clear, evidence-backed conclusion with confirmed facts vs hypotheses, exact IP/request/timestamp examples, and remediation steps for configuration hardening only after approval. Insert the Which specific dates/times (with timezone) mark the exact start after the redevelopment and ad/tracking change, so I can align Cloudflare + Apache logs precisely? placeholder for the specific evidence scope you want prioritized. Abnormal traffic spikes hitting checkout endpoints immediately after a site redeploy usually point to an exposed origin IP or automated scrapers interacting with newly modified WooCommerce ajax endpoints. The investigation starts with cross referencing Cloudflare security analytics against raw Apache logs from the exact timestamp the traffic pattern changed, specifically isolating requests with missing referrers hitting product categories. Next, checking whether the Linode firewall restricts incoming traffic strictly to Cloudflare edge IPs will confirm if the origin is being bypassed directly. Finally, auditing recent changes in Google Tag Manager and the tracking setup will rule out self induced crawler loops from updated ad pixels. Which specific tracking scripts or advertising pixels were added during the recent website redevelopment?

Hello, As a seasoned and versatile WordPress developer with over a decade of experience, I have had the opportunity to work extensively with WooCommerce and cPanel Linux server environments. What sets me apart from other candidates is my holistic understanding of the WordPress/WooCommerce ecosystem along with an in-depth comprehension of security issues that can plague an online store. With Cloudflare being an integral part of your website's infrastructure, I must commend on my significant experience and expertise in handling its WAF and Security Analytics. My strategy isn't about just applying more blocking rules or installing different plugins; instead, I believe in meticulous scrutiny and thoughtful action. In dealing with this issue, I would systematically investigate each potential vulnerability - from analyzing the raw access logs to reviewing Cloudflare & Linode settings; from evaluating plugin compatibility to scrutinizing changes made in Google Tag Manager! By doing so, I would identify the root cause, present it precisely with supporting evidence, delineate confirmed facts from hypotheses and finally suggest appropriate remediation steps. Rest assured your production environment will stay unaltered unless authorized otherwise. Let's uncover this mystery together!

I would start by collecting and preserving raw Apache/cPanel logs from the affected timeframes to analyze request patterns—focusing on IP rotation, user agents, request frequency, and endpoints hit. Next, I’d review Cloudflare Security Analytics and WAF logs to understand which requests triggered blocks or passed through, and audit recent Cloudflare configuration changes to spot anything that might have opened a gap. Then, I’d verify if the Linode origin server is accessible directly (bypassing Cloudflare) by testing known IPs and firewall rules, checking CSF and network setup to ensure no unrestricted paths exist. I’d also audit active WordPress and WooCommerce plugins, especially those that handle REST API, AJAX calls, or cron jobs, to see if rogue endpoints or outdated plugins could be abused. Since your abnormal traffic started post site redevelopment and ad changes, I’d review Google Tag Manager, Ads, Pixel Manager, and related scripts for any new or altered tracking URLs or triggers that may generate or attract suspicious traffic. I’d also run a file integrity check and malware scan to exclude compromise. Finally, I’d construct a timeline comparing all these data points to isolate root causes. Once confirmed, I’ll provide a clear report with evidence, exact sample traffic, and a roadmap for remediation—never making changes without your go-ahead. Ready to start the investigation immediately.

Hi there, Dealing with sudden, sophisticated bot waves bypassing basic mitigation while generating 5xx errors and false positives requires a forensic, root-cause first approach rather than slapping on generic WAF rules that hurt genuine conversions. My step-by-step investigation starts by correlating Apache/cPanel raw access logs with Cloudflare Security Analytics and audit histories to map the exact timeline against your recent site redevelopment. I will audit your Linode origin server to check for direct-IP bypass vulnerabilities, review WordPress/WooCommerce endpoints, REST APIs, and cron activities, and inspect your tracking and Pixel Manager changes for unintentional bot triggers or scraper hooks, all while preserving evidence and making zero production changes without your approval. Here are my questions: 1. Have you noticed any specific patterns in the User-Agents or request headers during these traffic waves? 2. Are the origin IP addresses currently exposed in historical DNS records prior to Cloudflare proxying? Drop me a message so we can get started right away.

Hello, Your priority is a diagnosis-first investigation of abnormal WooCommerce traffic, server load, and 5xx errors without disrupting legitimate customers or production evidence. I would begin by preserving relevant logs and building a precise timeline, then correlate Apache/cPanel requests with Cloudflare Security Analytics, WAF events, audit history, DNS, and origin access. I would review Linode/CSF configuration, WordPress and WooCommerce behavior, REST/AJAX endpoints, cron jobs, generated URLs, tracking changes, feeds, and file integrity to distinguish confirmed facts from hypotheses. The final report would document representative IPs, timestamps, requests, endpoints, evidence, root cause, and carefully staged remediation recommendations. No blocking or production changes would be made without approval. I can provide a structured investigation focused on identifying whether this is external abuse, origin bypass, application behavior, configuration error, or compromise. Regards, Muhammad
