I was given a research based project of "Remote Firmware Upgrade" with the objective of designing a novel architecture to update the firmware of all the smart energy meters in Pakistan installed by MicroTech, whenever they are commanded to do so. Moreover, there should be no interruption in proper functionality of the meter... I did the project with utmost success and made a prototype of the architecture running on actual smart energy meters.
